New renders of the Samsung Galaxy S23 have emerged online. The phone takes a page out of the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s playbook and houses each camera sensor individually. Everything else about its design is largely identical to that of its predecessor.
Everything that has been revealed about the Galaxy S23 series so far suggests that it will offer, at best, paltry upgrades over the Galaxy S22. The differences are even less prominent in the vanilla Galaxy S23. Now, some leaked renders of the device have been made available by renowned leaker @OnLeaks (via Digit).
The Samsung Galaxy S23 will reuse the bog-standard design found on most high-end flagships, and even some mid-rangers, complete with three vertical camera modules at the back and a hole-punch selfie camera. However, it takes a page out of the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s book by aligning each camera sensor individually. They also could be a tad thicker and not let the phone sit flush on a flat surface.
OnLeaks also confirms the Galaxy S23’s dimensions, 146.3 mm x 70.8 mm x 7.6 mm (5.75 in x 2.78 in x 0.29 in), echoing earlier sentiments about its size. Its power button and volume rocker will sit next to each other on the left spine, with the bottom part being populated by the USB Type-C port, SIM card slot and speaker grilles. While Samsung does get some brownie points for trying to keep its design fresh, the changes are almost Apple-esque in terms of internals.
Samsung’s prospects in the highly-competitive Chinese markets are slated to get worse due to the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ using 1080p displays. An improved camera system could help stem the bleeding a little, but rumour has it that there aren’t many improvements on that front either, at least not for the non-Ultra versions. One saving grace could have been global SoC parity (Snapdragon 8 Gen 2), but there are talks about an Exynos-powered Galaxy S23 being in the pipeline.
