According to new reports, Samsung has settled on the camera design for the Galaxy S23 Ultra, next year’s replacement for the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Reputedly due in January 2023, the Galaxy S23 Ultra is also expected to launch with a tweaked chassis that has less pronounced curves than its predecessor.
Ice Universe has commented again on the Galaxy S23 Ultra, a smartphone the leaker has tweeted plenty about in the last few weeks. As we discussed earlier this month, Ice Universe continues to believe that Samsung will equip the Galaxy S23 Ultra with the ISOCELL HP2, an improved version of the ISOCELL HP1, a 200 MP camera sensor that debuted in the Moto X30 Pro. Presumably, the Galaxy S23 Ultra will feature better camera processing than the Moto X30 Pro too, not just a superior camera sensor.
According to Ice Universe, Samsung will package the ISOCELL HP2 within the camera design from the Galaxy S22 Ultra. In other words, the leaker is claiming that the Galaxy S23 Ultra will launch with the same two-column and individual lens layout that debuted on the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Details on other sensors are unknown are this stage, although we imagine that Samsung will continue to include ultra-wide-angle and telephoto sensors.
Separately, Ice Universe has outlined a minor design difference between the Galaxy S22 Ultra and Galaxy S23 Ultra. As the image below shows, the leaker asserts that Samsung is moving away from the pill-shaped design that the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and Galaxy S22 Ultra sport on their top and bottom elements. Instead, the Galaxy S23 Ultra will have a less rounded profile, albeit while remaining as wide and thick as the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Theoretically, this change could improve ergonomics while preserving curved display and back panel edges. Currently, the Galaxy S23 Ultra is expected to arrive in early 2023, possibly as soon as January.
