OnePlus has announced a new Open Beta for its 2021 9-series smartphones. It offers users early access to its OxygenOS 13 skin for Android, which will upgrade the former flagships to the latest software available to them with the newest custom features from its OEM. Then again, it is not yet available for all regions in which the devices are sold, and may come with unexpected bugs due to its non-stable status.
OnePlus has finally moved its 10 Pro flagship out of its Open Beta phase of OxygenOS 13 (or OOS 13) development, leaving its predecessors to take its place. Those who own the 9 or 9 Pro can become testers for this updated software rather than run their current build of OOS based on Android 12.
As with all public beta builds, there is the risk of many more bugs and general instability compared to a ‘normal’ software version.
Then again, membership of the new OnePlus 9/9 Pro Open Beta program confers the latest OOS features in advance, thus keeping the perfectly serviceable premium first-gen Hasselblad phones relevant.
However, OnePlus has also announced that the new Open Beta initiative is available to 9 and 9 Pro units sold in India or North America, but not the EU, at present.
In addition, there are some known bugs thus far, which includes a loss of compatibility with the Verizon network; the inability to turn the phone’s flashlight off from the lockscreen and its inability to store missed calls, but only if they came over VoLTE from iPhones.
